Drivers' group to campaign against 7 years imprisonment bill!

PRLog (Press Release)– May 19, 2011– 'Karl Turner, an MP since taking over from John Prescott at Hull East in 2010, is already attempting to get his name in lights - and the law books- at the expense of the UK's thirty million drivers, by seeking to have them imprisoned for seven years, based on someone's unqualified perception or impression of reckless driving where there is no injury involved or even an accident.' Say Drivers' Protest Union. (D.P.U.)

Turner's Bill reads:  'That leave be given to bring in a Bill to increase the maximum sentence for a conviction of dangerous driving from two years to seven years; and for connected purposes.'

Ex patrol officer and founder of the group Keith Peat says: 'Reckless under the RTA1988 sec2 always was subjective and relying on the viewpoint of totally inexpert and hostile witnesses but at least a subsequent accident indicated that the driver got something wrong. Even with death and injury though it mostly relies on mere perception rc helicopter and car market place but why should we imprison people at all for an accident when the State has also played such a big part in the scenario?' Ask Keith.

The Group points out that 'An example of how this act is misused cannot better be demonstrated with the recent jailing of a Lincoln man who was not committing any offence when a girl ran in front of his car and merely sustained a fractured arm. Because the police turned to Sec 2 this driver is now in jail. Then there is the police officer who ran into a stationary car, killing the occupant, and gets just a fine'

The new Bill gets its second reading in the House in September. In the meantime a corsa compla chrysler int has already been lodged about the comments of Mr Turner to the House when presenting his Bill. The g dodge roup intends 1086274749  to lobby MPs and incite driver objections to the Bill.

'It's about time MPs, like Karl Turner, realised that thirty million drivers are a massive voting block' Say Drivers' Protest Union.
