PRLog (Press Release)– Mar 29, 2011– Located in the Las Vegas arts district just across from the "Welcome to Downtown Las Vegas" sign, theatre7 had a quiet opening in March. Now owner Derek Stonebarger is ready for the place, located at 1406 South 3rd Street, Las Vegas, NV 89104, to make some noise.
"This month is going to be a party every weekend," Stonebarger said. "We are celebrating independent movie making with close to ten feature films produced right here in Las Vegas, a couple of filmmakers that are legends of our independent scene and a look at local short films."
Kicking off the month will be the world premiere of One Long Day, the debut film from mailman turned director Keith Mosher. The revenge shoot 'em up feature will screen April 2. It will play again on April 22 and 24.
The female super hero film The Awakening from director Mike Conway will screen April 3. Conway is a Las Vegas indie institution that's been making movies since 1980.
Speaking of residents firmly associated with independent cinema, three films from grindhouse legend Ted V. Mikels are also apart of this month's lineup. Mikels, who has directed more than 20 features, turns 82 on April 29, which also happens to be the birthday of Stonebarger.
Astro-Zombies M3: Cloned, the latest finished film from Mikels, screens April 7 to kickoff the Ted V. Mikels Thursday series. His 1982 classic Ten Violent Women, which remains the highest selling of all the films in his catalog, will play April 21. His 1971 drive-in gem The Corpse Grinders rounds out the series on April 28.
"I'm real excited about being apart of Derek's lineup this month," Mikels said. "I hope people get behind his theater. It's a great endeavor."
Stonebarger will also be celebrating short films in April. With the Las Vegas 48 Hour Film Project taking place the weekend of April 8-10, theatre7 will screen, free to the public, some of the best shorts of past events on April 8 and 9. The venue will then be the dropoff location for the 2011 event th cadillac e following day.
Additionally, April 23 acura will be a Las Vegas short film showcase. Stonebarger and programmer Chad Clinton Freeman are still accepting submissions for the event. They can be contacted via email, theatre7lv@gmail.com.
Concluding the schedule for the month will be Stonebarger's I.M. Caravaggio on April 17 and 29, Thor at the Bus Stop (Jerry and Mike Thompson) on April 16 and You People (Kelly Schwarze) on April 30.
The artwork of 3 Nevada Artists - Lynne Jordan, Kelly Haugh and Darryl Martin - will be showcased April 1 and 15.
Tickets to screenings are $7 and include a choice of popcorn, soda or candy. Showtimes are 7 p.m.

April 3 The Awakening 7 p.m., $7, PG-13, 90 minutes This low budget super hero film from director Mike Conway delivers the goods with girls, guns and clones. A well meaning scientist uses an experimental radiation treatment to cure his wife of terminal cancer. What he doesn't count on are the side effects - super-human strength and mood swings. Unknown to Lara and David is that the procedure's templates were meant to create aggressive super soldiers. The government wants Lara's power and will stop at nothing to get it. David teams up with rogue Marines to try and save his wife and make her normal.
April 7 Ted V. Mikels Thursday Astro Zombies M3: Cloned 7 p.m., $7, PG-13, 105 minutes The Doll Squad meets the Astro Zombies in the latest creati corsa on from grindhouse legend Ted V. Mikels. This third installment of the Astro Zombie franchise features the final cinematic appearance of cult icon Tura Satana (Faster, Pussycat! Kill! Kill!). They are demented. They are mutants. They are Astro Zombies!

April 16 Thor at the Bus Stop 7 p.m., $7, PG, 90 minutes This feature film directorial debut of Jerry and Mike Thompson, is a comedy about the mythical Thor, the Norse God of Lightning, making his final journey through a suburban neighborhood on the d dodge ay he is going to die fighting to save the world. Thor starts a chain reaction of interweaving storylines packed with zany characters and themes about goodness and the power of cool.
April 17 I.M. Caravaggio (Also playing April 29) 7 p.m., $7, R, 90 minutes Based on Italian artist Michelangelo Merisi da Caravaggio's true life, promising new director Derek Stonebarger weaves a daring tale of identity crisis in his debut feature film I.M. Caravaggio. In a non-linear story, set in the seedy and rarely photographed ghetto of Las Vegas, witness the rise and fall of a modern day Master, Ian Milano, who works and lives as 17th Century Italian Painter Caravaggio in order to forge his artistic genius and unlock his own sociopathic nature.

Ten beautiful working girls decide they've had enough of the rat race and find a quick way to solve their problems: robbery. April 23 Las Vegas Short Film Showcase 7 p.m., $7 A presentation of short films from local filmmakers.
April 28 Ted V. Mikels Thursday The Corpse Grinders 7 p.m., $7, R, 72 minutes This 1971 classic tells the tale of a near bankrupt cat food company that decides to cut costs by utilizing human corpses for their "premium blend" of kitty food. The special blend becomes a best seller, but there is one slight set back. Once the felines have tasted human flesh they revert to a very primal state of maneateing. A doctor and his wife stumble across the plot, investigate and more horror ensues.
April 30 You People 7 p.m., $7, PG, 90 minutes An award-winning film from director Kelly Schwarze. It tells the story about a board game that eventually causes racial riots and societal issues. After losing their jobs, Felix, Patty and Jerry accidentally stumble onto a racially explosive board game concept called You People. You People is a timely comedy that deals with the bad economy, and the ridiculousness of ethnic stereotypes.
