A report from the UN Environment Programme (UNEP), published on July 7th 2011, revealed that in the past year investors had put an estimated $211 billion (£129 billion) into renewable sources including solar, wind, hyrdo and geothermal energy. This represents an increase of around a third from the $160 billion invested in 2009, not to mention a figure more than five times higher than levels of investment in 2004.
